Oxford-born and educated actor and screenwriter Frank Butler (1890-1967) pursued a film career in the United States. Originally a comic actor for Hal Roach, appearing in Our Gang shorts and his own series of Frank Butler comedies, he found even greater success as a screenwriter. He often wrote for Bing Crosby, including the films Going My Way, Waikiki Wedding and three of the Crosby/Hope/Lamour "Road" movies (Singapore, Morocco, Bali). He could also script action films, including Wake Island (1942) and Whispering Smith (1948). He wrote one Broadway play, Hangman's Whip (1933), which he also adapted for a 1939 film called Island of Lost Men. Edges frayed and lightly worn. Staple holes at top edge. Fine condition.
