Frank Campanella (1919-2006) was a tall, tough-looking character actor
who has appeared onscreen from the 1950s, usually cast as a uniformed big-city
cop. Some of his film credits include Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956),
A View from the Bridge (1962), The Producers (1968), The Gang
That Couldn't Shoot Straight (1971), Capone (1975), High
Anxiety (1977), Death Wish 2 (1982), The Flamingo Kid (1984),
Overboard (1987) and Pretty Woman (1990). The son of immigrant
parents, he taught Robert De Niro to speak Sicilian for his role as the young
Vito Corleone in The Godfather: Part II. He is the brother of actor
