FRANK CAPRA
Photograph signed by one military man to another
Inscribed photograph signed "To Ken Browne/an Ex-Marine/from/an X in the army/ Frank Capra". B/w, 7½x9¼. This photograph is apparently made out to an ex-Marine by Capra, who himself was twice a member of the Army: once during World War I as a member of the Coastal Artillery and then again in World War II, making propaganda films like the highly successful Why We Fight series. Capra (1897-1991), born in Sicily, was the winner of three Best Director Academy Awards for It Happened One Night (1934), Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936) and You Can't Take It With You (1938). He enjoyed total creative freedom on his sets and also directed, among other films, Lost Horizon (1937), Meet John Doe (1941) and It's A Wonderful Life (1946). Capra was the first Hollywood director to have his name precede a film's title. Lightly toned and lightly creased in upper left corner and on sides. Otherwise in fine condition.
