FRANK CAPRA
Capra signs a contract with United Artists to get a copy of Pocketful of
Miracles... his own movie
Contract signed "Frank Capra" in red ink with "Dean Stolber",
Senior Vice President at United Artists Corporation. 2 pages, 8½x11, on
United Artists Corporation letterhead. April 30, 1979. Capra signed this
contract in order to obtain a 16mm print of his last film, 1961's Pocketful
of Miracles. The contract lasted five years and was to be automatically
extended for additional five-year periods at its end. It allowed Capra to own
and show the movie for his private, personal library use only. Capra
(1897-1991), born in Sicily, was the winner of three Best Director Academy
Awards for It Happened One Night (1934), Mr. Deeds Goes to
Town (1936) and You Can't Take It With You (1938). He enjoyed total
creative freedom on his sets and also directed, among other films, Lost
Horizon (1937), Meet John Doe (1941) and It's A Wonderful Life
(1946). Capra was the first Hollywood director to have his name precede a
film's title. Lightly toned. Staple holes in upper right corner. Contract
has been folded in thirds and unfolded. Otherwise in fine
condition.
