FRANK CAPRA
Self-caricature of Frank Capra that's also his signature
Self-caricature signed "F.C." in green ink. Frank Capra had a lot of
jobs during his life: producer, director, movie extra, door-to-door salesman,
tutor, gag-writer for Mack Sennett and Hal Roach... You can also say he was an
artist, or at least was attempting to be one when he wrote this signature.
Can you find his name in this little mustachioed man? Capra (1897-1991),
born in Sicily, was the winner of three Best Director Academy Awards for
It Happened One Night (1934), Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936) and
You Can't Take It With You (1938). He enjoyed total creative freedom on
his sets and also directed, among other films, Lost Horizon (1937),
Meet John Doe (1941) and It's A Wonderful Life (1946). Capra
was the first Hollywood director to have his name precede a film's title.
Lightly toned and creased. Signature is lightly smeared but legible.
Otherwise in fine condition.
