Typed letter signed "Frank Crane". With ink notations on verso in unknown hand. 1 page, 8¼x10¾, on Crane's letterhead from the Editorial Department, The Associated Newspapers, Singer, New York. Los Angeles, California, Dec. 28, 1915. Addressed to John P. Allen, Scarsdale, New York. In full: "My dear Mr. Allen: Your Christmas card is at hand and we are very pleased to know that you and Mrs. Allen thought of us on this occasion. We are getting along fairly well, and expect to be in New York in June. May God bless you and keep you both. Cordially yours,". Crane (1861-1928) was a Presbyterian minister. A popular newspaper columnist around the turn of the 20th Century, Crane published 10 volumes of his Four Minute Essays in 1919. He published a longer book, Everyday Wisdom, in 1927, with thought-a-day essays and "52 Little Talks on How to Live" - one for every week of the year, if you wanted. His writings were characterized by positive thinking and a populist political philosophy. Lightly toned, stained and creased. Torn along top and right edges. Folded twice vertically and thrice horizontally. Tears along folds on top and right edges. Otherwise in fine condition.
