FRANK CRUMIT
Autograph sentiment from the Vaudeville and radio star, signed, "Much
good luck."
Autograph sentiment signed: "Much Good Luck/Frank Crumit".
5½x4. 1933. Frank Crumit (1889-1943) began in Vaudeville in his early
20's, referred to as "the one-man glee club" for his spunky and high spirited
ukulele performances. He landed his first Broadway role playing his ukulele in
Betty Be Good in 1918, and later he sang his song, "Sweet Lady" in
the Greenwich Village Follies (1920). After he met his wife and radio
co-host, actress Julia Sanderson (1887-1975) in 1922, Crumit teamed up
with his wife to broadcast their radio show, "Swinging Sweethearts on the Air"
(1930). The success of their radio show led to a quiz show, Battle of the
Sexes, which ran for 13 years up until Crumit's death. Among his many hit
songs, including "I Learned About Women From Her", Crumit is the composer and
writer for Ohio State University's fight song, "Buckeye Battle Cry" which he
entered into a contest in 1919, a couple years after his graduation. Lightly
creased. Fine condition.
