Sepia, 8¼x10½ (3 surfaces). Newspaper photo and clipping attached at right
edge. American sculptor F[rank] Edwin Elwell (1858-1922) did indeed
receive the gold medals he has cited (Philadelphia Club 1889, Chicago Exposition
1891) for his statue Dickens and Little Nell, which stands in Fairmont Park,
Philadelphia. Among his other well known works are a statue of General Winfield
Hancock on the Gettysburg battlefield, and the bust of Senator Levi P. Morton in
the US Capitol's statuary hall. Top right corner town. Corners chipped and worn.
Edges worn. Lightly toned. Signature light but legible. Otherwise, fine
condition.
