Typed letter signed: "Frank Mankiewicz" in black ink. 1 page, 7¼x10½. Written on personal letterhead. Bethesda, Maryland. June 28, 1977. Address to Mr. William Stanhope of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In full: "Thank you for your letter of June 8th. If you will send the book and an envelope for return, I will be happy to autograph it for you. With best wishes. Sincerely". Frank Mankiewicz (1924-2014) is an American journalist, the son of Herman Mankiewicz who co-wrote Citizen Kane, and the nephew of Joseph Mankiewicz who directed films such as All About Eve and Cleopatra. Mankiewicz has held many broadcasting jobs, such as president of the National Public Radio, regional director for the Peace Cops in Latin America, campaign director for th e 1972 Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern, and most famously as presidential campaign press secretary in 1968 to Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and in June 1968 made the famous announcement about his death about 26 hours after the Senator was shot telling reporters, "I have, uh, a short...I have a short announcement to read, which I will read, uh...at this time. Senator Robert Francis Kennedy died at 1:44 AM today, June 6, 1968". In 1984, he wrote for the Quarante magazine, notably penning the article "Politics and Media: In Search of An Angle" which argues how television coverage of politics had changed.
