FRANK FINLAYThe highly regarded British actor signs his name and good wishes on this black and white, 4x5¾ photograph Inscribed photograph signed: "For Howard/All good wishes/Frank Finlay", in black ink, B/w, 4x5¾. A devoutly Catholic Englishman, Frank Finlay (1926-2016) became a member of the British Catholic Stage Guild when he began his acting career in 1957. Originally, Finlay wanted to work in the family trade as a butcher, but it was at the theater that he met his wife Doreen Shepard, who he stayed married to for over 50 years until her death in 2005. Finlay was involved in countless plays during the 1950's and 1960's, and then made the crossover to film in 1962, but continued to work in the theater simultaneously. The actor received a Golden Globe and Oscar nomination for his role as Iago in the film adaptation of Othello (1965). He appeared in several films in subsequent years, most notably playing the father in the Oscar winning WWII film The Pianist (2002) alongside Adrien Brody, who won Best Actor for the film. He also won a BAFTA award for his role in the television program ITV Sunday Night Theatre: The Death of Adolph Hitler (1973), wherein he played the Fuhrer himself. Fine condition.
