Signature of Massachusetts Governor Frank G. Allen, affixed to a yellow album leaf
Signature: "Frank G. Allen". Blue ink and lead pencil notations at bottom edge of album leaf in unknown hand. 3¼x1 signature affixed to a 6¼x4 album leaf with rounded corners. Signature is captioned: "Governor". According to the notations on the leaf, this signature was signed in Boston, Massachusetts in October of 1930. Allen (1874-1950) was Republican Lieutenant Governor (1925-1929) and Governor (1929-1931) of Massachusetts. During his one term as governor, the state passed child welfare laws and instituted an old age pension. Allen created the Massachusetts Transit Authority and Massachusetts Port Authority, expanded care for the sick and indigent and appointed two women to judgeships. His reelection bid was defeated by Democrat Joseph B. Ely in 1930. Lightly toned, stained and bowed. Signature has irregular edges and is cut off slightly at top edge, but is legible. Leaf was neatly torn from album at left edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
