FRANK RIZZO
"Law and order" cop who became mayor of Philadelphia
Photograph inscribed and signed: "Doug/Best wishes/Frank Rizzo". B/w,
8x10. As Philadelphia's Police Commissioner (1967-1971), Frank Rizzo (1920-1991)
earned a reputation as a hard-nosed crime fighter, an image that
helped him twice win election as the city's mayor (1972-1980). A blunt,
polarizing figure, Rizzo failed to secure an amendment to the city charter which
would have permitted him to run for a third consecutive term. He hosted a radio
talk show after leaving office, and was making another run for mayor when he
died of a heart attack. Adequate contrast. Mounting tape remnants on verso (no
show through). Fine condition.
