FRANK MAYO
5¼x7 head and shoulders image of the silent film star. Very rare!
Photograph signed: "Yours sincerely/Frank Mayo". B/w, 5¼x7. Frank
Mayo (1889-1963) was a star of silent films, who remained active in
smaller roles through 1949. He starred as a detective in the early serial
The Red Circle (1915), and in the early John Ford movies The Girl in
Number 29 (1917) and The Hitchin' Post (1920). The latter two
films also featured his wife, silent screen actress Dagmar Godowsky.
Unfortunately, many of Mayo's early films have been lost. One which survives is
The Altar Stairs (1922), with Louise Lorraine as his co-star, and
featuring Godowsky and an early appearance by Boris Karloff. Counting some early
shorts and some un-credited roles at the end of his career, he appeared in
over 300 movies. Corners lightly worn and creased. Toned. Faint, small
stains throughut. Adhesive residue on right margin. Pencil notes (unknown hand).
Otherwise, fine condition.
