Autograph Letter signed: "Frank B. Noyes", 1 page, 6¼x8
affixed to slightly large sheet with Noyes' personal letter head (2-surfaces).
Winter Harbor, Maine, 1944 August 30. On letterhead of the Grindstone Inn
to "Dear Mrs. and Miss Noyes", in full: "Thank you very
sincerely for sending me the News Bulletin of the Maine Society of Washington
containing the item concerning my father and his descendants. It is a rather
unusual fact that four generations of the Noyes family have served the Star.
Appreciatively." Frank Brett Noyes (1863-1948) went to work for the
Washington Evening Star, published by his father, Crosby Stuart Noyes,
while still in high school. He joined the business staff in 1881, and rose
by 1910 to become president of the newspaper. From 1901 to 1910, without
giving up his position as a director of the Star, he was editor of the
Chicago Recorder Active in the Associated Press from 1893, he served
as its President for nearly four decades (1900-1938). Normal mailing folds.
