A brief letter from author to an editor, updating his address
Autograph letter signed: "Frank R. Stockton", 1p, 5x8. New York, 1886 January 12. To the Editor, St. Nicholas. In full: "On and after Wednesday, Jan. 13th my address will be: 'The Albert' 11th & University Place, City. Yours truly". At the top of the letter, Stockton has penned: "Please note new address". Humorist and author Frank R. Stockton (1834-1902) wrote juvenile fiction while assistant editor of "St. Nicholas" magazine (1873-1881). His fame spread with the publication of his short story, "The Lady or the Tiger?" in 1882. In 1886, he published his finest work, The Casting Away of Mrs. Lecks and Mrs. Alshine, a novel about a South Pacific shipwreck. Stockton also wrote non-fiction books, including Personally Conducted, about touring Europe, and Buccaneers and Pirates of Our Coast. Toned, esp. on top and bottom margin. Normal mailing folds. Left edge notched and frayed. Corners worn and creased, with top left and bottom right corners bearing small tears. Faint stains across. Small tear on bottom left margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
