The comedian signs "Cheerio" above his signature in blue ink
Autograph sentiment signed: "Cheerio/Frank Randle", in blue ink, 6¼x5¼. English music hall and film comedian FRANK RANDLE (1901-1957), known for his zany antics, had a touring show called Randle's Scandals. After failing his physical for the RAF in World War II, he joined the Home Guard, and made his mark in films. Randle typically played an underdog flouting authority, a role he also played in real life in his continuous battles with the police chief of the seaside resort of Blackpool. (His police charge sheet there is now in the charge of the Lancashire County Museums. No solid information is available on "Ted Player", but he may have been a bartender. The Café Royal Cocktail Book, edited by W. J. Tarling (1937), attributes one of the cocktails there to J. E. (Ted) Player, and the note's association with a bar makes that connection plausible. There is a Queen's Hotel in Blackpool, a town where Frank Randle spent much of his time. Paper remnants on left margin. Toned. Light surface creases. Fine condition.
