FRANK SINATRA
Signed contract (1981) to star in a one-hour special on NBC-TV
Contract signed: "Frank Sinatra" as Artist, 12 pages, 8½x11,
separate sheets. California, 1981 June 19. Headed: "Tape Special
Agreement". In part: "NBC has ordered and Packager agrees to
produce and deliver a minimum of one (1), one (1) hour television specials (the
'Program') either live or on videotape, for the 1981/82, 1982/83, 1983/84
broadcast years respectively. Each Program shall star Frank Sinatra whose
services are of the essence to this Agreement...." "NBC" was NBC
Entertainment, a Division of National Broadcasting Company, Inc. "Packager" was
Bristol Productions, Inc. Also signed by officers of NBC and Bristol.
Sinatra has signed as "Artist" at the conclusion affirming that: "I have read
the foregoing Agreement and do hereby represent, warrant and agree to all of the
terms and conditions contained therein." Sinatra: The Man and His
Music was telecast on NBC on December 21, 1981. Multi-talented actor and
singer Frank Sinatra (1915-1998) won an Academy Award for Best Supporting
Actor in 1953 (as Maggio in From Here to Eternity) and Grammy
Awards for Best Pop Vocal in 1959 ("Come Dance With Me"), 1965 ("It Was a Very
Good Year") and 1966 ("Strangers in the Night"). After being with the Harry
James Orchestra and Tommy Dorsey, Sinatra struck out on his own, becoming the
hero of a generation of "bobby-soxers". "Old Blue Eyes" was popular in venues
from casinos to concert halls, and his renditions of such tunes as "My Way" and
"New York, New York" are inimitable classics. "The Chairman of the Board" was
equally well-known for his philanthropies. He was awarded the Jean Hersholt
Humanitarian Award in 1970. Staple holes at upper left blank corners. 2 file
holes at upper blank margins. Lightly creased. Overall, fine
condition.
