FRANK SINATRA
Signed typed letter to entertainment reporter Louis Sobol (1949), featuring Sinatra's classy remark,"They told me...I'd be the second Bing Crosby....but I have news for them.....THEY HAVEN'T USED UP THE OLD ONE YET".
TLS: "Frank", 1 page, 7¼x10. Beverly Hills, California, 1949 February 19. To columnist Louis Sobol of the New York "Journal-American". Sinatra has used periods to separate his thoughts. In full: "Hay (sic)...thanks a million for that Sunday feature.........sorry that you had to go to Florida when I was in New York last week...because I wanted to thank you in person...........they told me when I came out here that I'd be the second Bing Crosby....but I have news for them.....THEY HAVEN'T USED UP THE OLD ONE YET.....again many thanks to you Louis my lad and may we meet soon, as ever." [Ellipses in original.] In 1943, Sinatra acted in his first movie, RKO's Step Lively. He had previously appeared in films as a singer in Tommy Dorsey's band. Sinatra won the 1953 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the role of Private Angelo Maggio in From Here to Eternity. Crosby had won the 1944 Academy Award for Best Actor for the role of Father O'Malley in Going My Way. Lightly creased, not at signature. Fine condition.
