The stage and on screen actor sends a letter to Theatre World Founder
Daniel Blum, forwarding a list of his theatrical performances
Autograph letter signed: "Frank Tweddell," in blue ink, 1page,
5½x9. New York City, January 18, 1951. To "Dear Sir [Daniel Blum]," in
part: "Herewith current portrait of myself for possible use in next issue
of 'Theatre World'[item not included]. Recent plays 'Golden State,'
'Boomed in Texas,' last season 'Mr. Barry's Etchings,'" The actor continues
to list his theatre credits. He concludes with, "Except for the recent ones,
I'm omitting flops. Very truly yours." Born in the hill nation of Muree
Pakistan, Frank Tweddell (1895-1971) was a stage and on screen actor who
has performed in over 25 Broadway plays, including Claudia
(1941-1943), Suds in Your Eye (1944) and Abe Lincoln in
Illinois (1938-1939). Tweddell, while most his roles were minor, also
has an extensive on screen career of over 30 credits, appearing in Route
66 (1964), Naked City (1961-1962), The Diary of Anne
Frank (1959) and The Tattooed Stranger (1950). Daniel
Blum (1900-1964) founded Theatre World in 1945, serving as its chief
editor until his death in 1964. Aided by Norman McDonald and John A. Willis
(his successor as chief editor), Blum also conceived what would become the
prestigious Theatre World Awards for promising new actors in the New York stage,
Broadway and later off-Broadway as well. Toned. Otherwise, fine
condition.
