The American Southwest author sends a letter of thanks to a classroom, signs name in black ink
Typed letter signed: "Frank Waters" in black ink. 1 page, 6¼x8½. Written on personal stationary. January 18, 1973. Taos, New Mexico. Addressed to Mr. J.L. Pruett, in full: "Thank you for including me in your list of modern authors. I am most happy to send my signature for your classroom and with it my best wishes to each and all the students. Sincerely". Frank Waters (1902-1995) was a writer known for his novels and historical works about the American Southwest; born in Colorado, it was his father (who was part Cheyenne) who influenced his interest in the Native American experience, taking his son on trips to the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. Working multiple jobs, Waters eventually earned a distinguished writing career with novels such as Fever Pitch (1930), Dust Within the Rock (1940), River Lady (1942) and Flight from Fiesta (1986), as well as other works including The Colorado (1946), To Possess the Land: A Biography of Arthur Rochford Manby (1973), and Mountain Dialogues (1981). Waters is also remembered for establishing the Frank Waters Foundation in 1993, a nonprofit whose goal is to promote the arts and the creative spirit. Normal mailing folds. Slightly toned. Corners creased. Light surface creases throughout. Otherwise, fine condition.
