FRANKIE AVALON
The 1950s teen idol signs youthful headshot for a fan in black
ink
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Charles/ All the Best/ Frankie
Avalon" in black ink. B/w, 8x10. Unlike some of the heavily marketed "teen
idols" who ruled youth-oriented American radio between Elvis and The Beatles,
Frankie Avalon (b. 1939) had a real music background. His popularity
peaked in 1959, when he had #1 hits "Venus" and "Why". While Avalon made
several action movies, beginning with Guns of the Timberland (1960), he
is best remembered for his Beach Party movies with Annette Funicello,
beginning in 1963. Avalon still tours in "golden boy" revivals with Bobby
Rydell and Fabian. Slightly toned. Corners rounded. Light surface creases. Ink
slightly smeared but not on signature. Ink stamps on verso. Ink notes on verso
in unknown hand. Otherwise, fine condition.
