FRANKIE CARLE
Handsome publicity photograph of the composer, pianist and orchestra leader.
Photograph signed: "Sincerely/Frankie Carle". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7½x8¾ (one surface). General Amusement Corp. publicity photograph by James J. Kriegsmann, New York (imprinted at lower left). Captioned at lower margin: "Frankie Carle/and his Orchestra". Frankie Carle (1903-2001), born Francis Nunzio Carlone, was one of the most popular pianists of the 1940s and 1950s. Known as "the Wizard of the Keyboard", Carle was a featured performer (and later partner) in Horace Heidt's orchestra before leaving in 1944 to form his own orchestra, which featured his daughter (billed as Marjorie Hughes) as the lead vocalist. Carle, who wrote such million-seller hits as "Sunrise Serenade" (his theme song) and "Ciribiribin", became a popular solo performer after disbanding his orchestra in 1955. His many recordings can be found on the Dot, RCA Victor and Columbia labels. Slightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface creases (most not evident head on), diagonal crease at bridge of nose. Overall, fine and handsome.
