Inscribed Record Album Cover signed: “To/ Marvin/ Much Love to/ you/ Frankie Ford/ Jul 2, 77”, in blue ink, 12¼x12¼. Album cover for the 12-inch record of Frankie Ford's namesake album, featuring 11 songs total. Album included. Frankie Ford (1939-2015), born Vincent Francis Guzzo, Jr., was a singer who specialized in rock-and-roll and rhythm and blues vocals. His 1959 smash hit “Sea Cruise” is the song for which he is best remembered. Ford was discovered by manager Joe Caronna, who helped him land a deal with Ace Records. In 1958, Ford made his first record for Ace. The following year, Ford's version of the Huey "Piano" Smith song “Sea Cruise”, sold more than a million copies and was certified gold. Although later releases failed to achieve the level of success of “Sea Cruise”, his renditions of "Alimony" and "Time After Time" managed to make it onto national charts. Ford last song to successfully chart was "Seventeen" in 1961. In 1962, Ford was drafted; as part of his service he performed for troops in Korea, Vietnam, and Japan. In addition to singing, Ford appeared in the 1978 movie American Hot Wax. He was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2010. Corners and edge lightly worn. Faint staining throughout. Album sleeve toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
