Paper also contains a clipping, 2¼x½, announcing one of Konwitshny's performances. Franz Konwitschny (1901-1962) was a conductor known for his exaggerated style and his manipulation of the beat and tempo of the works he conducted.Konwitshny's musical education commenced with his study of the viola and he eventually earned a seat in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. After playing in the Fitzner Quartet, Konwitschny became a conductor. His conducting career commenced in 1927, when he began leading the Stuttgart Opera. In addition to his primary occupation of principal conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra (which he held from 1949 until his passing in 1962), Konwitshny served as the principal conductor of the Dresden Staatskapelle, and from 1955 onward he led the Berlin State Opera.
