Photograph inscribed in French and signed: "À Monsieur André Laudemonde/avec toute ma sympathie/Paris 14-2-1941 Lehár Franz". B/w, 4x6. Photo: Studio Harcourt, Paris. Hungarian violinist and composer. Lehár (1870-1948) was a major figure in the revival of Viennese light opera at the beginning of the 20th century. His The Merry Widow (1905) popularized operetta in the U.S. As a military bandmaster before and during World War I, he composed several marches. During the 1920s, Lehár incorporated new styles of popular music, including American blues, into his compositions, and began composing film scores. The composer, remained in Vienna during World War II, avoiding politics. This photo was inscribed in German-occupied Paris during World War II. Slightly soiled in blank margins. Otherwise, fine condition.
