Inscribed photograph signed: "Hook 'em, Bill/ Fred Akers" in black ink. Color, 7¾x9½. Fred Akers (1938-2020) is a former football player and coach, best known for his tenures as head football coach at the University of Wyoming (1975-1976), the University of Texas at Austin (1977-1986), and at Purdue University (1987-1990), compiling an overall career record of 108-75-3. He is best remembered for his player Earl Campbell earning the Heisman Trophy in 1977, as well as his Texas team qualifying for national title chances in the 1978 and 1984 Cotton Bowl Classics, during which the teams went undefeated in the regular season only to lose in their bowl game.
