FRED ASTAIRE. Signature: "Fred Astaire". 3½x2¼ card. Astaire began his career touring in the vaudeville circuit with his sister Adele as a dancing partner. After many stage hits, he was given a screen test resulting in the famous verdict: "Can't act. Slightly bald. Can dance a little." In the 1930s, he was paired with Ginger Rogers in ten films and continued to dominate musical films in the 1940s. Astaire was a recipient of a special Academy Award in 1949 for his contribution to films and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for The Towering Inferno in 1974. He died at 88 in 1987. 1x¼-inch rectangular stain at signature (touches "Fred" of signature). Lightly soiled. Mounting remnants on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
