Document signed: "Fred Astaire". 1p, 8½x11. Los Angeles,
California, 1948 July 9. To RKO Radio Pictures, Los Angeles. In part:
"Please be advised that, in accordance with the provisions of all the
agreements of employment between us, all notices which you are required to give
me shall be addressed to me c/o Music Corporation of America...." Fred
Astaire (1899-1987) began his career touring in the vaudeville circuit with
his sister Adele as a dancing partner. After many stage hits, he was given a
screen test resulting in the famous verdict: "Can't act. Slightly bald. Can
dance a little." In the 1930s, he was paired with Ginger Rogers in ten films
and continued to dominate musical films in the 1940s. Astaire was a recipient of
a special Academy Award in 1949 for his contribution to films and
was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for The Towering Inferno
in 1974. He died at 88 in 1987. Lightly creased. Ink and erased pencil notes
at top blank area (unknown hand). File holes at top margin. Ink smudge at blank
left margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
