FRED ROGERS
Warm letter to a youth competing in the Special Olympics, a perfect example of his kind, encouraging style with kids.
Typed Letter signed: "Mister Rogers", 1p, 8½x11. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1991 December. On letterhead of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood to Julian. In full: "It was good to meet you from Mr. Overman's letter. He told me that you were in the Special Olympics. One time on our television program we visited some boys and girls who were training for the Special Olympics, and I know that takes a lot of hard work. I understand from Mr. Overman's letter that you did so well on the local level that you were able to go on to the state competition - and that you've won medals there! There are many people who are proud of you, like the people in your family and your friends. It was obvious from his letter to me that Mr. Overman is proud of you. And, I'm proud of you as your television friend. I hope you're proud of yourself, too. Julian, I also hope you know that the people who care about you like you, not just because of your medals, but just because you're you. Your television friend".Fred Rogers (1928-2003), writer, composer and puppeteer, was the host of the popular PBS children's television show Mister Rogers' Neighborhood from 1968-2001. His mild manner, cardigan sweaters and soft-speaking voice made him widely beloved (and also much parodied). Rogers ended production of the show in 2001, but the almost 1,000 half-hour episodes continue as reruns. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
