Signed promotional photo for the New York Sets of World Team Tennis
Photograph signed: "Good luck/Fred Stolle". B/w, 8x10. Caption includes printed logos of the New York Sets and of World Team Tennis. Australian tennis star Fred Stolle (b. 1938) won the French Open Championship in 1965 and the US Open in 1966. He was a finalist at the other Grand Slam events (Wimbledon and the Australian Open) several times in that decade. Stolle excelled even more in doubles competition, winning 10 Open trophies in men's doubles and five more in mixed doubles. After leaving the court, he became a TV commentator. World Team Tennis, a professional league composed equally of male and female players, began play in 1974. The New York Sets were one of the original teams. WTT has experienced many changes of franchise, with New York City now represented by the Sportimes. This promotional photo dates from the 1974-1976 era of the Sets, who won the League championship in 1976 and changed names thereafter. Fine condition.
