Original Art signed: "Wagner", 6½x3½. To the left of his signature, Wagner has drawn "Gen. Snort" from the "Grin and Bear it" comic strip Drawn on a First Day Cover honoring Will Rogers stamp, 3-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Claremore, Oklahoma, November 4, 1948, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Cartoonist Fred Wagner (born in 1942) drew the "Catfish" comic strip from 1986-1994. "Catfish" had previously been drawn (1973-1985) by its creator, Roger Bollen. Wagner took over the drawing of another Bollen strip, "Animal Crackers" strip, upon Bollen's death in 1994. Wagner, who is also an editorial cartoonist, also drew the "Grin and Bear It" comic strip, created by George Lichtenstein in 1932 and now written by Ralph Dunajin. Light haloing around signature, but legible. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
