FRED WILLIAMSON
Small card signed by Williamson in red ink
Signature: "Fred Williamson". With pencil notations in unknown hand on verso. 3¾x3
cardstock. Fred "the Hammer" Williamson, born in Gary, Indiana in 1938, was a flamboyant,
self-promoting football star with the Oakland Raiders (1961-1965) and Kansas City
Chiefs, appearing in Super Bowl I in 1967. After a brief stint as an architect, Williamson
turned to acting, first receiving notice as the "love interest" on the TV show, Julia, but
becoming best known for his action roles in such "blaxplotation" features such as That Man
Bolt (1973), Black Caesar (1973), Boss [Explicit] (1975) and Mean Johnny Barrows (1976).
Williamson, who has written, directed and produced many of the films in which he has
appeared, established the Po' Boy Production Company, which has produced over 40 films.
The multitalented star was recently seen in 2004's Starsky & Hutch. Lightly toned. Light
dents near top right corner. Otherwise in fine condition.
