Signed of the New York Mets owner who entangled the club's finances with Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme
Baseball signed: "Fred Wilpon/Lots of Luck". "Official League" baseball, signed in blue ballpoint. Fred Wilpon (b. 1936) was President of the New York Mets from 1980 to 2002, becoming Chairman of the Board in 2003. He has owned 50% of the ball club since 1986. Wilpon is unpopular with Mets fans for several reasons, but notably for investing money set aside for later payments on player contracts with Bernard Madoff. Wilpon, an early Madoff investor, appears to have made money personally in his dealings with Madoff, but may now be forced to sell the club to pay off hefty lawsuits. In November 2010, the Mets organized was obliged to borrow $250 million from Major League Baseball. Signature lightly beaded but legible. Lightly toned. Unknown stains throughout ball (not effecting signature). Otherwise, fine condition.
