FREDDIE "FEARLESS FREDDIE" MILLS
Small 3¾x5 b/w photo of British light-heavyweight boxer Freddie Mills
in trunks and a fighting stance, signed "Best O. Luck" by him
Photograph signed "Best O. Luck/from/Freddie
Mills/RAB/[illegible]". B/w, 3¾x5. Mills (1919-1965) was a
British light-heavyweight boxer and World Light Heavyweight champion from
1942 to 1950. He was also Commonwealth and British Boxing Board of Control
light heavyweight champion (1942, relinquished) and European Boxing Union
light heavyweight champ (1947-1949). Mills had a career record of 76 wins,
18 losses and 7 draws, with 49 wins and 7 losses to knockout, between 1936 and
1950. After retiring, he opened a nightclub in the Soho section of London,
England, United Kingdom, and he became friends with the Kray brothers, identical
twin boxers and gangsters. Mills died on July 24, 1965 from a gunshot wound to
the head. His death was ruled a suicide, although several wild conspiracy
theories about his death sprang up, including one that he was "Jack the
Stripper", a serial killer responsible for killing at least six prostitutes in
1964 and 1965. Lightly creased and bowed. Signature has low contrast but is
legible. Lightly worn at corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
