FREDDIE PRINZE. Signature: "Freddie/Prinze/CHICO", 3x5 card. Pencil note (unknown hand on verso) with date: "11-74". In 1974, Prinze was starring in the hit TV series, Chico and the Man. Comedian and actor Freddie Prinze (1954-1977), born Frederick Karl Pruetzel to a Puerto Rican mother and a Hungarian Jewish father, began his career in show business at the Improv Club in New York. In December 1973, Prinze made his first appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carosn, where he became one of only two other comedians to be invited to chat with Johnny after his performance. Shortly afterwards, Prinze won the role of Chico Rodriquez in the NBC series, Chico and the Man (1974-1977), which co-starred Jack Albertson, who would become one of his closest friends. During the show's run, Prinze released a comedy album, Looking Good (1975), and he also appeared on TV talk and variety shows. Despite his fame - and fatherhood (his son, Freddie James Prinze, Jr., was born in 1976) - Prinze developed an addiction to drugs. Despondent over the break-up of his marriage, Prinze committed suicide in January 1977, shortly after appearing at an inaugural gala for President Jimmy Carter. Fine condition.
