FREDDY MARTIN
The bandleader and tenor signs an autograph note on a 5x3 index
card
Autograph Note signed: "To Marcia/Regards/Freddy Martin", 5x3
index card. Bandleader and tenor saxophonist Freddy Martin (1906-1983)
was known as "Mr. Silvertone." The creator of the "tenor band"
style, he was one of the most skillful and popular of the "sweet bands"
which flourished in hotel ballrooms of the 1930s and 1940s. Remaining active, he
was music director of Elvis Presley's first Las Vegas show. Martin could be
heard frequently on radio and early television, and his band was featured in
several films, including Canteen (1943). Slightly worn at corners. Fine
condition.
