The Statue of Liberty sculptor's signature in black ink
Signature: "For autograph/ Bartholdi", 4¼x2½ card affixed to 9½x14 sheet beneath newspaper illustration of a bust view of Bartholdi. B/w, 7¾x7¾. French sculptor Frederic Bartholdi (1834-1904) is best known for his statue of Liberty Enlightening the World, more popularly known as the Statue of Liberty, which arrived in New York harbor on June 17, 1885 aboard the French steamer Isère. Bartholdi, who had personally chosen the location for the statue, unveiled his creation, a gift from the people of France to America, on October 28, 1886. Signature card has slight paper clip impression at upper left, lightly soiled, file note (unknown hand) at upper right corner. Mounting sheet is creased and torn. Ink note (unknown hand) at upper right margin. Light show through of type on verso to image. Pencil note at its lower right (unknown hand). Otherwise, fine condition.
