FREDERIC RAPHAEL
The Oscar-winning screenwriter says there is "only one way to be a writer".
ANS: "Frederic Raphael", 7x9. St. Laurent-La-Vallée, France, no date. "For Roland Fischer." In full: "There is only one way to be a writer - & that is to use your eyes, to read & to look. To read to learn how to write & to look to see how things really are as opposed to how people say they are." American-born screenwriter, novelist and journalist Frederic Michael Raphael (born in 1931) won the Academy Award for his screenplay for the 1965 film, Darling, and he was nominated for his screenplay for the 1968 film, Two for the Road. Raphael is also known for his adaptation of Thomas Hardy's play, Far From the Madding Crowd, which was made into a feature film in 1967. In addition to his screenwriting credits, Raphael has written over 20 novels, several history books, biographies and collections of essays, and his articles and book reviews have appeared in a number of magazines and newspapers. In 1999, Raphael published Eyes Wide Open, the story of his collaboration with legendary director Stanley Kubrick on the screenplay of Kubrick's final film, Eyes Wide Shut. Slightly creased with folds, not at signature. Fine condition.
