The Glittering Prizes, a BBC TV miniseries, was based on Raphael's 1976 semi-autobiographical novel of the same name. The television adaptation, which was aired in 1976, won a Royal Television Society of the Year Award for the author, who has written more than 20 novels. American-born screenwriter, novelist and journalist Frederic Michael Raphael (born in 1931) won the Academy Award for his screenplay for the 1965 film, Darling, and he was nominated for his screenplay for the 1968 film, Two for the Road. Raphael is also known for his adaptation of Thomas Hardy's play, Far From the Madding Crowd, which was made into a feature film in 1967. In addition to his screenwriting credits and novels, Raphael has written several history books, biographies and collections of essays, and his articles and book reviews have appeared in a number of magazines and newspapers. In 1999, Raphael published Eyes Wide Open, the story of his collaboration with legendary director Stanley Kubrick on the screenplay of Kubrick's final film, Eyes Wide Shut.
