FREDERIC MISTRAL. AQS: "F. Mistral" in Provençal, 1p,
4½x6¾. Maillane (Provence), 1909 August 30. Five words in Provençal,
roughly translated: "Sing a song of Provence". Noted by him to be
a verse from his pastoral poem Miréio, which was written in
Provençal, the literary language he used. Penned upside down at blank
portion of autograph sheet imprinted: "The Autograph Collection of/Howes Norris,
Jr." Miréio, published in 1859, was the first great success for French
poet Frederic Mistral (1830-1914), who won the Nobel Prize in
Literature in 1904. Slightly creased. Fine condition.
