The English-born American painter has written his name, adding the same in Chinese characters, and then he adds a Chinese proverb in Chinese characters, in phonetic Western alphabet, and in English.
Autograph Quotation signed: "Frederic Poole", 1 page, 5½x5½. He has also written his name in Chinese characters, and written a proverb three times: once in Chinese characters, once in transliteration, and once in English translation: "Under Heaven there is but one family." English-born painter Frederic Poole (1865-1936) moved to the US in 1913, becoming an instructor at the Art Institute of Chicago. Poole's oil paintings were in a realistic style. His interest in Asian art is reflected in his "Kuan Yen" (the Chinese Goddess of Mercy, 1933), a 5-foot tall oil on wood. Binding holes at left edge. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
