FREDERIC WILLIAM WILE - AUTOGRAPHED SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH - HFSID 25089
Price: $100.00
FREDERICK WILLIAM WILE
First generation political pundit of the airwaves.
Circular signed: "Frederick William Wile", 6¼x4 card. Signed next to
his reproduced photo (b/w, 3¾x3). Card captioned on verso (below photos of
Presidents FDR and Hoover): "The Democratic Landslide: An Analysis of the 1932
Elections by Frederic William Wile, Political Analyst of the Columbia
Broadcasting System". Frederick William Wile (1873-1941) was a journalist
and editorial writer for the Washington Evening Star who wrote several books on
political topics, including The Men Around the Kaiser: the Making of Modern
Germany (1914) and A Century of Industrial Progress (1928, foreword
by Herbert Hoover). In 1929, he was hired by CBS for nightly 15-minute
commentaries, The Political Situation in Washington Tonight. He thus
joined the generation of radio political commentators, including H. V.
Kaltenborn, Walter Winchell and Drew Pearson, who foreshadowed the TV
commentators of today. In 1930, Wile was sent by CBS to cover the 5-Power
disarmament talks in London, thus becoming, although temporarily, the
network's first foreign correspondent. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine
condition.
