Signature: "Fred A. Seaton/United States Senate/Nebraska" as U.S. Senator, 5x3 card. Accompanied by the transmittal letter from the Senator's Administrative Assistant, Lorne Kennedy, explaining that she received Mr. Ralph E. Ward's letter and is enclosing this autograph, typed on United States Senate letterhead, 1952 February 12. As well as the transmittal envelope with Seaton's stamped frank, postmarked Washington D.C., February 12, 1952. Frederick A. Seaton (1909-1974, born in Washington, D. C.) was a Republican Senator from Nebraska (1951-1952) and later was Secretary of the Interior (1956-1961) under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Seaton was a newspaper publisher before being appointed Senator by Nebraskan governor Val Peterson to fill a vacancy left by the death of Kenneth S. Wherry. Seaton later served in various undercabinet offices under Eisenhower, including a post as the president's administrative assistant from February to June 1955, before being appointed Secretary of the Interior. America added two states, Alaska and Hawaii, during his tenure as Secretary of the Interior. From the collection Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009) a fighter pilot and squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. Ward became President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the cosmetics firm into a major home product conglomerate. Adhesive residue on verso (heavy show through, affecting the top half of his signature). Staple holes at top left. Card not affixed to letter (appears that way in image). Otherwise, fine condition.
