present]." American pediatrician and virologist Frederick Chapman
Robbins (1916-2003) was one of three winners of the 1954 Nobel Prize for
Medicine (with John F. Enders and Thomas H. Weller) for their discovery
of the ability of poliomyelitis viruses to grow in cultures of various types of
tissue. His research helped speed the search for a polio vaccine. From 1966
Robbins was Dean of the Medical School of Case Western Reserve University. Fine
condition.
