FREDERICK SEITZ - AUTOGRAPHED SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH - HFSID 273772
Price: $90.00
FREDERICK SEITZ. Photograph signed: "Frederick Seitz". B/w,
8x10. American scientist Frederick Seitz (born in 1911) co-invented the
Wigner-Seitz unit cell, an important concept in solid state physics, with
Eugene Wigner. Known for his prominent physics textbook, The Modern Theory
of Solids (1940), Seitz served as President of the National Academy
of Sciences (1962-1969) before becoming President of Rockefeller
University (1968-1978). Shortly before his retirement from Rockefeller
University, Seitz became a permanent consultant for the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco
Company. In 1989, William Hobbs, the CEO of R.J. Reynolds, said, "Dr. Seitz
is quite elderly and not sufficiently rational to offer advice." Despite Hobbs'
assessment, Seitz authored "Global Warming and Ozone Hole Controversies. A
Challenge to Scientific Judgment", a report published by the George C.
Marshall Institute in 1994, and he signed the Leipzig Declaration in 1995.
Slightly creased at blank margins and corners, ¼-inch tear at left edge. Minor
surface creases (not evident head on). Paper clip impression at upper
background. Overall, fine condition.
