Typed quotation from a 1989 discussion sponsored by the New York Post: "If you read enough science fiction, nothing will ever take you by surprise; it's the best prophylactic against future shock." Frederick Pohl (1919-2013) has won 6 Hugo Awards: one for his novel Gateway (1977), two for his short stories and three as an editor. He was a founding member of the Futurians, a science fiction club which included such other soon to be writers as Isaac Asimov and Cyril Kornbluth (Pohl's frequent collaborator). His autobiography, The Way the Future Was (1978), is an invaluable source on the formative years of American SF. Pohl, who served with the US Army in Italy during World War II, also wrote the Encyclopedia Britannica article on Roman Emperor Tiberius. Fine condition.
