Signed transcript, the opening lines of his Hugo-winning novel Gateway
Typescript signed: "Frederik Pohl", 1p, 8½x11. Opening lines of Gateway (1977), the Hugo- and Nebula-winning novel, a segment of his Heechee series. Frederick Pohl (b. 1919) won 5 more Hugo Awards, two for his short stories and three as an editor. He was a founding member of the Futurians, a science fiction club which included such other soon to be writers as Isaac Asimov and Cyril Kornbluth (Pohl's frequent collaborator). His autobiography, The Way the Future Was (1978) is an invaluable source on the formative years of American SF. Pohl, who served with the US Army in Italy during World War II, also wrote the Encyclopedia Britannica article on Roman Emperor Tiberius. Slightly creased. Fine condition.
