Stage, screen and occasional television actor FREDERIC MARCH (1897-1975), born Frederick Ernest McIntyre Bickel in Racine, Wisconsin), won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931-1932) and The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), and he was also nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for The Royal Family of Broadway (1930-1931), A Star is Born (1937) and Death of a Salesman (1951). March, whose other films include The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1934), Les Misérables (1935), Inherit the Wind (1960) and Seven Days in May (1964), also won Best Actor Tony Awards for Years Ago (1947) and Long Day's Journey Into Night (1957). American actress FLORENCE ELDRIDGE (1901-1988), born Florence McKechnie)was Fredric March's second wife from 1927 until his death in 1975. A popular Broadway ingénue who developed into an actress capable of grueling roles, Eldridge had a total of 25 Broadway productions to her credit between 1918 and 1958 and 24 movies and TV shoes between 1923 and 1978. She appeared with March in seven movies, including Christopher Columbus (1949) and Inherit the Wind (1960), and 10 Broadway plays, including Long Day's Journey Into Night (1956-1958), for which she earned a Tony Award nomination. Maltese character actor JOSEPH CALLEIA (1897-1975) frequently played villains in his early screen career, but he broke out of this mold near the end to deliver some memorable performances, including the Mexican priest in The Littlest Outlaw (1955) and Police Sgt. Pete Menzies in Touch of Evil (1958). Calleia was also a stage actor with 7 Broadway credits between 1926 and 1935, including roles in the original Broadway productions of the Front Page (1928-1929) and Grand Hotel (1930-1931).
