The Oscar-winning actor wrote this letter on stationery from his home at Firefly Ranch in New Milford, Connecticut, to film historian Lawrence J. Quirk say that he had found some old pictures and was sending them along.
Autograph letter signed: "Fredric March" in blue ink. Pencil notations in top left corner in unknown hand. 1 page, 5¾x7¾, on stationery from March's home at Firefly Ranch in New Milford, Connecticut. Dated "4/9". In full: "Dear Mr. Quirk: Thanks for yours of the 7th. I phoned Bobby Sanford & he's sending me your letter, etc. Managed yesterday to dig out a lot of old pic-tures [not included], some of which may be of you. Please return them in time. Sincerely,". Firefly Farm was the home of March and wife Florence Eldridge. "Mr. Quirk" is probably LAWRENCE J. QUIRK, born in 1923, a Hollywood reporter and film historian. Among his many books are 1971's The Films of Fredric March, published by Citadel Press. Stage, screen and occasional television actor Frederic March (1897-1975), born Frederick Ernest McIntyre Bickel in Racine, Wisconsin), won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931-1932) and The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), and he was also nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for The Royal Family of Broadway (1930-1931), A Star is Born (1937) and Death of a Salesman (1951). March, whose other films include The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1934), Les Misérables (1935), Inherit the Wind (1960) and Seven Days in May (1964), also won Best Actor Tony Awards for Years Ago (1947) and Long Day's Journey Into Night (1957). Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise, fine condition.
