Document signed: "Fredric March", 2p (front and verso), 8½x11. New York, 1956 March 26. Standard AFTRA Engagement Contract for television. Marsh agrees to appear in the role of "Sam Dodsworth" in a performance of "Dodsworth" on NBC's program, Producers' Showcase, sponsored by RCA and Ford, on April 30, 1956. March is to be paid $25,000, plus nearly $3,000 in expenses, including travel to NBC's Hollywood studios. March commits to three weeks of rehearsals, beginning April 9. Signed on p1. Pages 2-4 are standard terms with certain provisions "xxx"'d out by typewriter. Stage, screen and occasional television actor Fredric March (1897-1975), born Ernest Frederick McIntyre Bickel, won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931-1932) and The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), and he was also nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for The Royal Family of Broadway (1930-1931), A Star is Born (1937) and Death of a Salesman (1951). March, whose other films include The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1934), Les Misérables (1935), Inherit the Wind (1960) and Seven Days in May (1964), also won Best Actor Tony Awards for Years Ago (1947) and Long Day's Journey Into Night (1957). The Producers' Showcase production of "Dodsworth", based on the novel by Sinclair Lewis, also starring Geraldine Fitzgerald, Claire Trevor and Regis Toomey, was shown on the scheduled date.
